Our Family

We have enjoyed over nine adventurous years of marriage, and we're excited for all the years to come! Together we have rafted through the Grand Canyon, hiked Utah's tallest peak, rappelled a 300 ft. cliff, backpacked in the Teton Mountain Range, explored Utah's longest cave, skied perfect powder, and traveled many places from mountain-biking in Whistler to surfing in Costa Rica. We love spending time with family and enjoy service and friendship in the LDS church.

Our kiddos came into our lives (four in 4 1/2 years!) and made everything brighter and more exciting than all of our outdoor thrills. We are absolutely in love with them and with parenthood. Living life and seeing the world everyday through their eyes is the greatest adventure yet.

How We Met

Although we were friends and neighbors for two years while attending Brigham Young University, we didn't start to date until the summer following our graduation. We took a trip with some mutual friends to raft the beautiful Rogue River in Oregon, and we fell in love on the adventure.

We were married six months later in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, and we have been best friends ever since. We started our family just over two and a half years later, when Peter was born. Brooklyn was born 19 months after that. George and Maren joined us almost three years later.

A Little Bit About Scott

Scott, age 33, is very active, determined, creative, humble, and hard-working. He earned his Master's degree in Business Administration while working full-time as a financial analyst at an investment bank. Following graduation, Scott was offered a position as a management consultant, which moved our family from Salt Lake City, Utah to Minneapolis, Minnesota for a while. We are now back in Salt Lake City, and Scott still enjoys working as a management consultant.

Having grown up in Santa Barbara, California, Scott was raised as a slightly-obsessed surfer. His love of Utah mountains inspired him to be a skilled mountain-biker as well. He loves fresh air, warm weather, and any chance to be active. Scott is a generous and loving husband, always finding new ways to support Lindsey. Recently he surprised her with a watercolor set because he knew how badly she wanted to learn to paint. He is always thinking of ways to reach out and serve others.

Scott has traveled to many countries in all parts of the world. During his undergraduate study in International Development, Scott worked to organize a woman's rug-weaving cooperative in Morocco, living among a remote Berber tribe for two months. He filmed a documentary of the Himba tribe in Namibia, performed public health work in Bolivia, explored the Amazon of Brazil, and surfed in Mexico and Nicaragua. Scott speaks fluent Spanish and served an LDS mission in New York City.

Best of all, Scott is a fantastic dad. He is a natural. Scott is always building forts for Peter, dancing in the kitchen with Brooklyn, jumping on the trampoline with Maren and George, wrestling and tickling, taking the kids on bike rides and hikes, creating new games, and splashing along with the kids at bath time. Scott makes a very direct effort to spend time with each of our kids, being active and adventurous. He is just as enthralled in whatever make-believe scenario they have designed as they are. He invents the most creative bedtime stories for Peter and has the sweetest and most special bond with Brooklyn. Maren and George joined their older siblings in saying, "Dada" for their first word. They all save their best smiles for when Scott comes through the door.

A Little Bit About Lindsey

Lindsey, age 30, is energetic, friendly, artistic, and courageous. Having grown up in Salt Lake City, Utah, Lindsey enjoys hiking, backpacking, rock-climbing, and feels most at home in beautiful mountains. She loves the snow and all winter sports, especially skiing. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Lindsey moved to Moab, Utah, and guided rafting tours on the Colorado River and the Green River. She was probably the littlest river guide in Moab, but she is strong and fearless.

Lindsey studied English Literature at Brigham Young University, and she loves to spend time reading the hundreds of books that fill our shelves at home. Her most memorable trip was a four-month study abroad in London, England, where she traveled throughout Europe, visited the homes of her favorite authors, and saw her favorite paintings up close.

Lindsey loves spending time outside and with family. Outside with family is best. She is very close with her parents, her siblings, and especially her nieces and nephews. Lindsey is a gifted violinist, a creative writer, quilter, photographer, and Spanish-speaker. She has worked as a paralegal, contributor for Utah publications, editor, river guide, and florist. She is a wonderful wife and partner on any adventure, willing and eager to get moving and explore something new. She is warm and inviting, a loving friend and devoted mom. She has made the decision to be at home with our children to raise them and attend to their needs and education. She enjoys every second of being a mom, will champion for our children always, and is convinced there is no better use of her time than caring for them with the very best she has. Our home, thanks to Lindsey, is one of music, fun, laughter, silliness, activity, creativity, artistic attempts, and imagination. It is also one of love, concern, and stability. Lindsey is a strength in our home, guiding our children through their questions about the world and the people in it. She makes sure each child knows they are special and loved, and that their story is meaningful and important. She worked hard to overcome the complications brought on by Peter's birth, and is a powerhouse of strength.

A Little Bit About Peter

Six-year old Peter is such a happy, sweet, and fun-loving boy, always aware of and sensitive to how the people around him feel and respond. Peter aims to please. He always wants to be sure that everyone is happy. He loves his little siblings and takes good care of them. He loves finding ways for them to play together, and lately his favorite is reading them his favorite stories.

Peter is at an active, inquisitive age that has been so much fun for our family. He is always challenging us with new questions and ideas. He loves to play pretend and comes up with the most inventive plots. He started kindergarten this year, and has a love for learning more and more every day. He gets excited each time he goes to school, quizzes us on all the things he learned, and surprises us with the things we didn't know he knew! He is so imaginative, and we can hardly keep up with his stories and games.

Peter is a coordinated little guy. He loves to ride his bike, he was up on skis at age two, and he is a great climber. He is very creative and loves to color, paint, and help with whatever projects we do around the house. Peter is very musical, takes piano lessons, loves to dance, and can memorize songs after singing them only a few times. Peter loves his cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and great-grandparents. He and his siblings are used to being the recipients of a lot of love.

Recently at the pool a ladybug landed on Scott. He told Peter to be really still while he placed the ladybug on Peter's finger. He was so still, in complete awe. As the ladybug released its wings and took flight from Peter's thumb, he looked at us with a face we'll never forget. In an instant, we were reminded just how magical childhood is. Peter appreciates the little things and is pure sunshine in our family.

A Little Bit About Brooklyn

Brooklyn was an early smiler, especially when we said to her, "I love you!" Since then, she has never stopped smiling. At age four, she is a very happy, social little girl. Brooklyn waves at everyone she sees, whether we are on a plane full of strangers or in a store. She gains attention and friends everywhere we go. She is so joyful, it is truly infectious.

Brooklyn loves books, daring expeditions down the slide, practicing yoga moves and somersaults, dance class, preschool, and being a mermaid in the pool or bath tub. She loves to be outside, whether crawling in the grass and sand or rolling around in the snow. Brooklyn is the kind of girl who stops to touch or smell everything alongside the trail while we walk. We love that about her. Brooklyn dances when she hears music. She sings constantly. She loves art. She also loves her Papa (Lindsey's dad), and facetiming with her cousins. Spending time with family (and birth family) is the all-time highlight for our darling social butterfly. She loves people. Lindsey takes her to storytime every week while Peter goes to kindergarten, and she is always making friends. Her favorite food is anything, really. A lover of treats and bacon, but she's also never turned down a vegetable.

Brooklyn's best friend is her Dad. From the very beginning, she has been a daddy's girl, and her daddy adores her. Brooklyn came into our lives, and we realized she was the piece we didn't know we were missing. She is a bright spot in our family, and to everyone who knows her. It is overwhelming to think of how full of love and open our girl's heart is. We know that every day counts when we think about how much she is learning. She is so smart and witty. Her jokes and comments always take us by surprise! She is learning to read, and nothing beats seeing how proud of herself she is when she passes off a book. She is fearless, resilient, and so eager to love. She gives the greatest hugs and kisses, and she gives them freely. Brooklyn loves her big brother, Peter. They are a fun pair. We know that their special bond as siblings is more deeply-rooted than we even know. She takes good care of her baby brother and baby sister. And she has a special bond with our yellow lab, Sammy.

A Little Bit about George

George is a total goof. At 22 months, he is a complete and total goof. And he knows it. And we love it. George loves to run around and be chased. He loves to hide. He loves to be tickled. He has the greatest giggle of all time that makes us laugh--even if he's doing something naughty. He is definitely a little mischief-maker.

George always has a job to do, whether stacking something, filling a basket with toys, carrying things from person to person, pushing a lawn-mower, or sweeping the kitchen. He keeps himself busy. He is a sensitive little guy who loves to snuggle and be held. George is a happy kid who loves his big siblings and his puppy. And he's protective of his twin sister Maren, always patting her head when she's sad and offering her the first bottle every time. He is a man of few words, but he makes some excellent cave-baby sounds. We call him Bam-Bam and Georgie.

A Little Bit about Maren

Maren is a sweetheart. She is happy 99% of the time, and has just enough sass in her to make her preferences known when needed. She loves music and specializes in kitchen dance parties. This girl is a crack-up. For how easy-going and pleasant she is, she is also busy and funny. Her latest thing is pulling her pants down and walking around with her pants at her ankles. Every outfit. Every day. She knows it's funny and will leave them like that all day.

She's the pioneer of the twins. She leads the way on climbing kitchen counters, escaping cribs, removing her diaper during nap time, diving off the couch onto cushions, and dancing to the music in the car. Maren loves to sit and look at books, smile, sing, and snuggle. She loves to jabber and chat. She says "Thank you," gives kisses, and gives the most heart-warming, "Hi!" to everyone she sees. She loves to be outside, go to storytime, and people-watch as we walk her older siblings to school. Maren adores her big sister, Brooky. We can't wait to watch their bond strengthen as they grow. Brooklyn knows she and Maren are going to share a room someday, and she asks nearly every single day when that can happen.

A Little Bit about Sammy

We love this puppy of ours more than we can say! She is the most gentle dog, protective of Maren and George from the day they came home from the NICU.

She joins our family on all of our adventures--from hiking to days at the lake to a weekend at the cabin. And she loves to sit and snuggle with Brooklyn. She always wants to be where we are, and waits at the front window for us when whenever we leave the house. Sammy just turned three, and we can't imagine our family without her in it.
